Follow Friday (10)

It's time for another Follow Friday hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. This meme encourages blogger fellowship and promotes the expansion of book blogs!

Question: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don't like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

This is easy, I post about it ALL the time. I can't stand insta-love. When a girl sees a guy and just completely falls into an unhealthy infatuation with him that could definitely border obsession. AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HIM! I mean come on, he could be some crazy kid with some skeletons in his closet, but because those eyes are so dreamy and his body so chiseled none of that matters. Its love...gag.

What's worse is when the guy feels the same way and they're in this blissful relationship and it's only page 10. They whisper sweet nothings and kiss all the time and everything is just perfect in their little bubble together. I can't stand that! I want progression in a relationship with rocky issues and roller coaster emotions. I want grit and angst and everything that makes a relationship worth having. Give me something real that I can grab on to because that other lovey dovey instantaneously crap just makes me want to throw up.

So really, I just want to see characters actually fall in love, not lust.

  2. Yes, I agree with this one! No one ever gets that infatuated right off the bat ... at least I've never witnessed it! Happy FF! :)

  3. I hate insta-love! I really want my reads to seem realistic, to be able to picture myself as the female lead (or at least a younger me!) and I have never been into insta-love...

  5. Hopping through. Boo insta-love. I definitely like books best where the characters make a gradual progression. Yet I still love Twilight. Go figure.

  9. Insta love: yuck, yuck, and yuck. The girls will fall for the guys for absolutely no reason. Ridiculous.

    Have a great weekend!

  10. Insta-love has to be the most popular answer, my point is that insta-love is real and it happens in real life why not on literary characters? I guess that insta-love is very much cliche thats why people are considering it as a pet peeve

    Happy Friday *waves*

  11. I agree! Oh! And usually in insta-love they have some strange way of explaining it out. Mated, destined, fated etc... I would love one of these characters to say, 'I don't want to be mated to you, you are creepy, and your face doesn't have one thing wrong with it!'

  20. Totally agree, insta love bothers me so much! I want to see the characters fall in love for time, not instantly!

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  21. It's difficult beacause we can"t even understand it. I don't like it either but there are so much events like that, that finally I'm used to it. I just need to not read a lot of books like that because it"s annoying.

  23. Totally agree!! It completely baffles me how "in love" a couple is, when they mention that they're only known each other for a week. I hate how loosely YA authors throw that term around sometimes.

  24. Oh my gosh, I DEFINITELY agree! When I first started reading, I didn't mind insta-love as much but now that I've actually read some really amazing love stories, I can't help but be really bothered by it! Unless it's done right (which is actually pretty difficult!), insta-love seriously lowers how much I enjoy a book!

Awesome answer, Kristan! :) I hope you have an amazing weekend!

  25. *sad nod* Insta-love is rough, especially when it results in one of those cutesy kissy adorable relationships that drags on through the whole book. A certain amount of conflict and tension is what makes things enjoyable!

  26. AGREE! It's not like I go up to some random person I met and make out with them. I hate, hate, hate that.

  27. Since instant attraction is usually more of a sign of hormones than actual true love--I completely agree that insta-love is so annoying. I get that we need to see that moment in the story where the characters see each other, but show me that there is more that something deeper develops from that initial attraction!

  29. I totally agree! Thanks for following me, by the way, I'm following you back. I can understand a small crush or attraction, but when they're sure they're going to marry each other and grow old together makes me want to hurl the book across the room. Great answer! I love your blog background, by the way, it's so cute!

  32. I definitely agree about insta-love. I think I've accepted it in a book 1-2 times, but most often it just has me going 'huh?'. It definitely needs a great reasoning to work. Great answer! Thanks for stopping by! :)

  33. Hello!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Sorry, but I'm a few days late!

I agree with you though...it's all about the journey! Falling in love at first sight would be so boring and frustrating!
